Hello Independent Students or Parents / Guardians:

Happy New Year!

January Diploma Exams begin next week. Some of our sites have larger numbers of students writing and for those not writing that day, you may be asked to work in a different classroom in order for us to accommodate the diploma exam writers. Otherwise, it is business as usual and learning continues during regular hours for all that do not have a scheduled exam. Diplomas begin on the 14 and end on the 24 of January. We ask that students are mindful of their classmates who are writing a diploma exam by keeping the noise level down in all common spaces.

Late nights also resume this week at each DC site and students may continue to learn alongside teachers until 5pm on most Wednesdays.

Please note, that EAL benchmarks, IPPs, Student Support Plans, and Success in School Plans are also updated in January. Independent Students / Legal Guardians will be invited to review and sign off on these documents as applicable.

As shared before, we recommend reviewing student academic progress regularly on your MyCBE Account. Teachers have been busy upgrading gradebooks as we enter the final stretch of semester 1. There, you will also be able to see Report Cards at the end of Semester 1. Semester 2 begins January 28th. While Discovering Choices follows a continuous enrollment model, it is important that students strive to complete their courses within a semester (5 month equivalent) to ensure they remain on track with their graduation plans. As such, we urge students to meet with their teachers to review their progress in their courses and to create a plan to meet any outstanding curricular outcomes. Student advisors are also available to meet to help review graduation plans and goal setting documents.
