Hello Discovering Choices Community,
I stepped into the role as the Principal for Discovering Choices earlier this month and have been taking the time to get to know some of the students, as well as the staff, across all four school sites.
How is my student doing?
All of our students have personalized academic plans that range in the number of courses they take during a week. Since we have continuous enrollment each student is at a different place in their learning. As such, we don’t follow a regular semester calendar that a typical high school would. However, if at any point, Parents/Guardians would like to know how their young person is doing at school, please reach out and we would be happy to make an appointment for you.
IPPs are ready for signing for our students that have been enrolled since the beginning of the school year and that have a special education code. If you have not received a copy please contact the school. Parents/Guardians are invited to reach out anytime they have questions about how their student is doing.

Engaging In Person Learning Events
There are a number of opportunities for students to engage in during the week. These include course tutorials, diploma prep, science labs, as well as various leadership groups. Please contact the above Assistant Principals if you would like to learn more about these opportunities for your student.
We recently started weekly, in person, Physical Education at the MNP Centre (formerly Talisman / Rexall / Lindsay Park). If you would like to know more please contact Emmett Cook, emcook@cbe.ab.ca, one of our Pys.Ed teachers. We also have several in person Art Classes and Art Mentorships in collaboration with the Esker Foundation. Please reach out to Nicole Lamoureux, nalamoureux@cbe.ab.ca, one of our Art teachers, if you have any questions. There are no cost to students for PhysEd or Art.
Child & Youth Well-Being | Family & Caregiver Series 2023-24
The Calgary Board of Education is inviting all families and caregivers to join in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions are hosted in partnership with Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.
These sessions are offered free of charge and provide information, resources, helplines, and services to support healthy child and youth development.
